Len holds a bachelor's and
a master's degree from the University of Virginia and is owner of a
construction company in Charlottesville. He has studied percussion with some of
the world's best African and Latin musicians, including Baba Olatunji, Chuck
Davis, Khalid Saleem, Mohamed Dacosta, and Max Roach.
As Music
Director for Chihamba African Dance Troupe he taught classes and performed,
opening for Ladysmith Black Mombazo at Charlottesville Performing Arts Center.
As road manager, merchandise manager and percussionist for the popular regional
act Baaba Seth,
Len led the band to east
coast touring success playing 120 gigs per year and opening for acts like Jimmy
Cliff, The Wailers, Johnny Clegg and Savuka, Ziggy Marley, Dave Mathews Band
and the Squirrel Nut Zippers.Baaba Seth recorded two CDs, played at RFK Stadium
for DC United Soccer team, and headlined for 30,000 fans at Richmond's Canal
St. Opening festival.MTV's Road Rules featured Baaba Seth's first
CD.
Len's project Last Days of May CD titled Radiant Black Mind was reviewed in Rolling Stone's August 31, 2000 issue. Len records and tours with several Virginia based bands, performs at festivals and leads workshops and private instruction.
